Sydney, Australia, 27 March 2025 – Amazon Australia today announced the launch of the Climate Pledge Friendly program, making it easier for customers to discover and shop for products with sustainability certifications on Amazon.com.au.
Australian customers now have access to 180,000 products which have been verified by one of 38 globally recognised certifications and have one or more sustainability features; ranging from products which contain recycled and organic materials, to products which are more energy efficient or have been produced using responsible farming and agricultural practices. These eligible products are clearly marked with a leaf icon, accompanied by a dropdown option that allows shoppers to easily explore each product’s sustainability features and corresponding third-party certification(s).
By collaborating with independent third-party certifications, Climate Pledge Friendly helps customers easily identify products that align with their own sustainability values. Partners include governmental agencies, non-profits and independent laboratories such as Rainforest Alliance, OEKO-TEX, or Recycled Claim Standard 100.
The program includes a range of categories, including beauty, fashion, everyday essentials, baby, home & kitchen and electronics. Brands range from global favourites DELL, Bissell, Braun, Kiehl’s and Philips to local Aussie sellers including STEP ONE, Modibodi and JOONYA. Eligible products are clearly labelled in the search results when shopping in the Amazon Australia store, with additional information shown on individual product pages and featured in a dedicated Storefront at Amazon.com.au/ClimatePledgeFriendly. Amazon will continue to collaborate with brands to grow the selection of Climate Pledge Friendly products available to customers.
Janet Menzies, Amazon Australia Country Manager, said: “We know many customers are looking for products that have strong environmental and social credentials, which align with their personal values. Climate Pledge Friendly is a simple way for Aussies to make considered choices when shopping with us.
“The overseas success of the Climate Pledge Friendly program shows that an increasing number of customers are seeking more sustainable products. We’re excited to be bringing this offering to our Australian customers. It’s all part of our commitment to help customers make more informed shopping choices.”
Leanne Sexton, founder of Australian baby products business JOONYA, said: “We are thrilled to be part of Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly program. As parents ourselves, we understand the confusion many parents encounter when choosing safer products for their babies. We made it our mission to create our dream brand of non-toxic, more sustainable baby products that we would have loved using on our own children.
"Having them certified by independent bodies was super important to us, to be able to reassure customers that our products are not only gentle on their baby, but the environment too. This program provides another way for our products to be discovered and we’re really pleased to be part of an initiative that empowers Aussies to make more informed choices.”
The Climate Pledge Friendly program, part of Amazon’s global sustainability commitment, has launched in Japan, the US, Europe, Mexico, Brazil, and now Australia. It builds on existing initiatives like Amazon Resale, which gives quality pre-owned, used and open box items a second life at discounted prices, Amazon Renewed, which offers affordable refurbished products, and Amazon Trade-In, where customers can trade in old devices—phones, tablets, or smartwatches—for an Amazon.com.au gift card via NorthLadder.
Amazon continues to work towards its Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040. This includes decarbonising its global operations, investing in carbon-free energy, electrifying its delivery fleet, reducing packaging and minimizing waste, among many other programs and initiatives. Notably, where Amazon controls fulfilment and product packaging, Amazon has stopped using single-use plastic delivery bags and envelopes in its Australian distribution network.
