Amazon launches new category, Pantry Food and Drinks, growing selection for Australian customers to 27 categories and more than 80 million products

SYDNEY – 17 October, 2018: Ten months after launching its Retail and Marketplace offering, Amazon Australia is today launching its 27th category, ‘Pantry Food and Drinks,’ a new range offering Aussies access to thousands of pantry items from over 400 local and international grocery brands.  Customers can now shop from local favourites such as Arnott’s, Milo, Uncle Tobys, Masterfoods, T2, Carman’s and Sanitarium, as well as international favourites such as Oreo, Powerade and M&Ms.

Rocco Braeuniger, Country Manager of Amazon Australia says, “Since the launch of amazon.com.au in December of last year, we have been focused on growing selection and services for Australian customers. Today we are delighted to add to the over 80 million products already available on the store with the launch of Pantry Food and Drinks, bringing greater convenience to customers, underscored by everyday brilliant value and fast delivery.”

The new category will enable Australians to stock up on staple pantry items with the click of a button, so heavy items such as beverages and tinned goods, alongside staples such as tea, coffee and confectionary will be sent straight to your door.  The product range also responds to the growing health food trend in Australia, featuring respected health food brands such as Pacific Organics, Blue Dinosaur Paleo Bars, Genoa Foods, Ovvio tea, and Madura tea, whilst also supporting local health food entrepreneurs including Honest to Goodness and Zen Green Tea.

Luke Hopkins, Co-founder and Director of The Protein Bread Co. said,“The Protein Bread Co. is incredibly excited to be working with Amazon Australia for the launch of its new category, Pantry Food & Drinks. We're passionate about a fitter, healthier, happier Australia and Amazon will be a pivotal partner in bringing this dream to life by extending our healthy high protein and low carb baking mixes to a broader, national audience. Our goal is to support Aussies with better food choices and working with Amazon will open the door for even more people to try our healthier versions of traditionally high carb foods such as pancakes, pizza and cookies, which will support them in achieving their goals.”

Pantry Food and Drinks follows the launch of Amazon Pet Supplies, Travel Store, Automotive and jewelry categories last month. Amazon also launched its membership program, Amazon Prime, in Australia in June of this year, bringing members in Australia access to the widest selection of Prime benefits at launch for any country ever—free delivery on millions of eligible local and international items, access to exclusive and award-winning Prime Original series and other popular movies and TV shows with Prime Video, access to over 1,000 e-books with Prime Reading, benefits for gamers with Twitch Prime, access to discounted priority delivery and more.

With Prime, nearly 90 per cent of Australians have access to free two business day delivery on Prime eligible items. Customers who do not have Prime can enjoy free delivery on orders above $49 when shipped by Amazon AU.  A one-day delivery service is available in select areas across Australia.  Everyone can try Prime and enjoy all of the benefits by signing up for a free 30-day trial at www.amazon.com.au/prime.
