BRISBANE – 11 June 2020 – Amazon Australia today announced it will expand its Australian operations, with the opening of its first Queensland fulfilment centre (FC) in Brisbane later this year. The new facility is located at Goodman’s Port Industry Park in Lytton, Brisbane and is set to begin operations before Christmas, enabling faster delivery to customers in Queensland.

The new fulfilment centre will be around the same size as two Rugby League fields, housing more than half a million items from Amazon.com.au ranging from health, household and personal care products, to electronics, books, gardening equipment and pantry staples. A high proportion of the items at the Brisbane FC will be the products Queenslanders most commonly purchase from Amazon, ensuring the most popular items are closer to customers and can therefore be delivered more quickly. The arrival of the Brisbane FC will also benefit Queensland based small & medium sized businesses who utilise Fulfilment By Amazon to seamlessly service customers across the country. Local sellers will soon be able to send their products to the Brisbane FC where Amazon will then pick, pack and ship orders to customers, provide customer service support and manage returns on behalf of the seller.

“Brisbane is a key strategic location to meet customer demand in Queensland. We are committed to improving delivery promises for our customers as demand continues to grow, and building infrastructure closer to where our customers and third party sellers live enables us to do this, while reducing our environmental impact,” said Craig Fuller, Director of Operations, Amazon Australia.

“This significant investment will benefit Queensland customers and small to medium size businesses, as well as create around 200 job opportunities to support the local economy. We’re proud to have played a unique role in supporting Australians during this unprecedented time, helping our customers to get the goods they need for their families without leaving their homes. Opening our Brisbane fulfilment centre will build on our capability to support Queenslanders, whilst providing job opportunities for local workers in a safe work environment, along with competitive pay. Furthermore, we are dedicated to enriching and giving back to the communities in which we operate and we look forward to working with the Council, surrounding schools and local community groups to create impactful community programs,” he said.

The Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said “As the state recovers from the impacts of COVID-19, Amazon’s commitment is a clear indicator of its confidence in our economic recovery and I’m proud that my government is playing a key role in facilitating their investment in Queensland.”

Amazon worked with Goodman Australia to secure the strategic location for the fulfilment centre, which is close to the Port of Brisbane, Brisbane airport and transport links. Goodman has commenced works on the existing and

acquired sites to ensure it meets Amazon’s specific requirements, supporting more than 170 construction jobs over the development and fit-out phase.

The fulfilment centre in Brisbane, along with the existing buildings in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, will allow Amazon to handle current and future customer demand and speed up delivery to customers across the country. The company currently has three fulfilment centers in Australia, it opened its first in Dandenong South, Melbourne in December 2017, followed by Moorebank, Sydney in August 2018 and the most recent in Perth’s Airport Precinct in November 2019.

Amazon.com.au launched in Australia in December 2017 and now offers customers 125 million products across 30 different categories including Amazon devices. Amazon has launched a number of products and services, such as Fulfilment By Amazon, Global Store, Prime, and Amazon Launchpad, a program that helps Aussie startups and entrepreneurs bring innovative products to local customers.
