December 10, 2024 at 12:01 AM AEDT

Most Australians will be able to place orders from hundreds of thousands of items as late as 22nd December and have them delivered in time for the big day

Tuesday 10 December 2024, Sydney: Amazon Australia has today announced its cut off dates for customers ordering on Amazon.com.au to receive their orders before Christmas, with many able to order as late as 22nd December.

Amazon Australia expects Prime members in Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Gosford, Melbourne, Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra to be able to shop from a huge range of eligible items up to Sunday 22nd December to receive them in time for Christmas, with free delivery.

Non-Prime customers will be able to order select items as late as the 20th December to have them arrive in time for the big day, or select a paid delivery option for faster delivery where available. Estimated cut off dates vary depending on the item, shipping location and Amazon Australia’s network capacity, with expected delivery dates shown at Checkout.

Country Manager at Amazon Australia Janet Menzies said, “The holiday season is as magical as it is hectic, and we want to make it easier for our customers to enjoy the magic without the stress. Our late holiday cut-off dates mean that most last-minute shoppers are able to order as late as the 22nd December from hundreds of thousands of products. Fast and reliable delivery across a wide selection of products remains the cornerstone of our customer offering and an enduring priority for us and we have been investing in our operational network across Australia, so that customers can rely on faster, seamless and reliable delivery during the holidays and beyond.”

Amazon Australia’s top tips for Christmas Shopping:

  1. Unlock Prime Benefits: Prime members can access the latest delivery cut offs alongside other benefits such as Prime Video. Additionally, Prime members can now access a 24-month DoorDash DashPass membership for free (AU$239 value), and benefit from unlimited AU$0 delivery fees on eligible DoorDash orders. New members can join with a 30-day free trial at amazon.com.au/prime, then pay $9.99 monthly or $79 annually for a membership.
  2. Add Convenience with the Amazon App: Shopping on-the-go is easy with the Amazon App, where you can search, shop, and track orders in real time.
  3. Organise your Shopping with an Amazon Wishlist: Map out your holiday shopping by creating an Amazon Wishlist. Enable deal notifications to be notified when a Wishlist item goes on sale.
  4. Rely on the Toy Experts: For those shopping for little ones, Amazon Australia’s Top 100 Toy List is here to help ensure every gift is a winner. All the toys on the list received expert toy-testing and a seal of approval from The Playmakers, nine official toy-testing kids connected to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
  5. Shop everything from gifts to everyday essentials, to the Christmas pud: Customers can shop from a huge range of products on Amazon.com.au including limited-edition Christmas pudding, the ‘Amazon Everything Christmas Pudding’, created with the help of TV personality and pastry chef, Anna Polyviou, and small Australian business and Christmas Pudding experts, Pud For All Seasons. This year’s limited edition pud is available for just $10 and is a savoury creation that blends the flavours of a traditional pud with essence of ham, turkey, gravy, pumpkin, cherry, rosemary and more, to bring many of the quintessential tastes of an Aussie Chrissie, into a single bite.
  6. Shop early: While Amazon Australia’s estimated delivery cut off dates aim to allow shoppers to make any final purchases, it doesn’t mean customers should leave their shopping until the last minute. Customers can shop now to take advantage of great deals and receive their orders ahead of Christmas.
  7. Use filters: Sort items by ‘Prime’ and filter by ‘Ships from Australia’ for faster delivery times. Orders shipped from overseas or shipped by third party sellers may take longer than domestic shipping, and may not arrive in time for Christmas.
  8. Shop what’s in stock: If some items are out of stock, it might slow down the delivery, so customers can either remove out of stock items from their basket or choose to have items delivered ‘when available.’
  9. Ensure payment and address details are accurate: An old or incorrect address, or an expired credit card on a customer account might mean the order will be declined or will be delayed until the details can be updated.
  10. Double check dates at Checkout: Most importantly, you should always check the final delivery date at Checkout. Delivery cut off dates are a guideline and can be impacted by external factors.

Amazon Australia has significantly invested in and expanded its operations network in 2024 to enable a seamless, faster, and more reliable shopping experience for customers. In fact, between January 2024 and early 2026 Amazon Australia will have invested $1.6 billion opening five new operational sites, which will create an additional 4,500 jobs once fully operational. Additionally, to prepare for the various holiday shopping events, Amazon Australia onboarded 600 seasonal workers, to help pick, pack and ship customer orders across its fulfilment centres and logistics sites nationwide.

This means that even more Amazon customers around Australia are now able to access an even better delivery experience, including faster delivery, delivery on evenings and weekends, and reattempted deliveries for customers when they are not home.  Now the majority of Prime members across the country can rely on next-day delivery on more than one million items, and in Sydney it’s now as fast as Same-Day.

In addition to delivery at home, customers can choose to have their orders delivered to one of more than 900 pick-up points, including Amazon Lockers and Counters, located in cities and towns around Australia including Townsville in Queensland, Rockingham in Western Australia and New Town in Tasmania.

Amazon Australia also has an extended returns window for the holiday season, with most items purchased between 1 November and 31 December able to be returned until 31 January 2025.
